The Contingency Etudes

The Contingency Etudes are a set of experimental studies for piano in which one or more¬†elements of the music are randomized. The ‘Contingency Theme’ is essentially 100% random. The studies that follow re-order the notes of the Contingency Theme into recognizable forms. The set concludes with two ‘Free Etudes’ which have no randomly determined elements as in the prior Contingency¬†studies. Listen to selections from the set in the playlist below:
