The Contingency Etudes

The Contingency Etudes are a set of experimental studies for piano in which one or more elements of the music are randomized. The ‘Contingency Theme’ is essentially 100% random. The studies that follow re-order the notes of the Contingency Theme into recognizable forms. The set concludes with two ‘Free Etudes’ which have no randomly determined elements as in the prior Contingency studies. Listen to selections from the set in the playlist below:
