Kyrie Eleison

Kyrie Eleison for Mixed Choir

In this piece the opening line of the Mass, “Kyrie Eleison, Christe Eleison,” features three-part counterpoint in a Renaissance style. This style derives much of its beauty from the strict control of dissonance that appeals very intuitively and powerfully to the human ear. The text becomes a vehicle for the craft of vocal polyphony, which in turn seeks to express the sense of worshipful adoration embodied by the text.
